An introduction to CNS Reports and CasePortal alerts
CasePortal offers three different ways for subscribers to be alerted about Courthouse News Service content:
CNS Reports
Courthouse News Service publishes curated daily reports of new and important litigation, bankruptcies, and case law. A complete list of our reports coverage is available here: https://search.cnscaseportal.com/reports/coverage.
Dingers
Dingers are saved searches you can create to alert you in the future about cases that match your interests.
Trackers
Trackers let you follow specific cases of interest so that you can notified about new docket sheet entries and subsequent filings.
To Subscribe to CNS Reports
Click the menu icon in the top left. Click on Reports and select CNS Reports from the submenu.
You can only see a list of CNS Reports that your office or firm subscribes to at large. If you are an administrator looking for more information about how to add CNS Reports to your current subscription, please contact [email protected].
On the far right of the page you will see a column labeled "My Subscriptions." If the box is unchecked, it means you are not configured to receive that particular report. If you wish to receive it, check the box and it will be delivered to your email address whenever a new report is published.
If you are currently configured to receive a particular report but no longer wish to, uncheck the box and you will no longer receive the report via email.
To Subscribe to Dingers
Dingers are saved searches you can create to alert you in the future about cases that match your interests. Each case library has its own Dingers list. When you create a Dinger using the Civil Litigation library, you can get to it by first clicking Civil Litigation and then clicking Dingers from the submenu.
You can see all Dingers created by all users in your firm or office. If you wish to filter the list, click the Filters button and choose an option such as "created by me" to see only Dingers you've created.
You can also search for Dingers by name or group name, or by searching values in the dinger query or billing reference fields.
There are two alert options for Dingers: SMS and Email.
To subscribe to a Dinger, check either the SMS or Email box in the My Subscriptions column.
To subscribe to a Dinger via SMS, you must first ensure that you have a mobile phone number stored in your profile. To do this, click your name in the top right then click Profile.
If you already have a phone number in your profile and wish to receive text alerts for new Dinger hits, check the SMS option in the My Subscriptions column.
Dingers configured to only alert daily in a summary cannot be subscribed to via SMS. If a Dinger is configured this way, a tooltip will inform you when you try to click the SMS option.
If you are an office or firm administrator looking for instructions on how to manage Dingers on behalf of other users, watch this video instead.
To unsubscribe from a Dinger, uncheck the boxes in the My Subscriptions column.
You can use the "subscribed to by me" option in the filters to only show Dingers that you are currently subscribed to.
Only the creator of a Dinger (or a user with an Office or Firm Admin role) can take additional actions such as pausing or deleting a Dinger.
To Subscribe to Trackers
Trackers follow individual cases and alert you whenever there is a new docket sheet entry or subsequent filing for a given case.
Trackers are only available in the Civil Litigation library. From the main menu, click Civil Litigation then click Trackers from the submenu.
Like Dingers, the Trackers list can be filtered to show only Trackers you currently subscribe to.
Check or uncheck the box next in the My Subscriptions column to subscribe to (or unsubscribe from) a Tracker.
Only the creator of a Tracker (or a user with an Office or Firm Admin role) can take additional actions such as pausing or deleting a Tracker.
